In 1975 the Moody Foundation of Galveston, Texas provided a grant to establish a small library of basic reference books on the Texas Rangers. The late Mrs. Mary Moody Northen was instrumental in securing support for the library. This was the beginning of what is now the Statedesignated library and archives for the Texas Rangers. The mission of the Research Center is to serve the public and advance knowledge of the Texas Rangers by acquiring, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting materials relating to Texas and the American West, law enforcement, Southern Plains Indian history and ethnography, and firearms history and technology.
