Jaywil Software Development was incorporated in 1993. The company was started by Brian Watson in 1991, as a software development firm that was primarily involved with working on projects for other companies. As Brian was programming for a number of other companies, he was also developing a database for his wife, Helena Watson, to help her manage her professional library. Around the same time, a need became apparent at a local private school for a similar data base that could also produce catalog cards and labels. Brian offered to develop that feature for the school and the expansion of what would eventually be called ResourceMate started.
