The University of Tennessee, Knoxville was founded in 1794 and was designated the state landgrant institution in 1879. The University now has nearly 26,000 students and 400 academic programs.Government Documents include the publications of United States Federal Government agencies, the State of Tennessee, selected foreign governments, and international agencies. The UT Libraries have participated as a selective Federal depository since 1907 and currently select about 40 of items offered through the Federal Depository Library Program. Beginning in 1917, the Libraries also serve as a State of Tennessee depository. Materials received on deposit cover a variety of subjects and formats, including print, DVD and internet. Government publications shelved by SuDocs classification are located in the Storage collection. These and selected pre1976 titles may be accessed using the online catalog. Current government publications, except for reference titles, are selected in digital format only. Department of Agriculture publications are located in the AgricultureVeterinary Medicine Library. Maps and other cartographic materials are located in the Map Services. Government data files are housed with the Data Services collection in the Hodges Library. Staff will assist in identifying materials and locations throughout the University Libraries.
